Adrian Picked To Win Inaugural MWLC Crown
NAPERVILLE, Ill. - The inaugural Midwest Women's Lacrosse Conference Coaches' Poll has been released and Adrian College is the overwhelming favorite to win the conference title in 2011. The Bulldogs got the nod from the league's coaches after finishing 14-3 overall in 2010 and beating current conference members by a 120-30 margin in 2010. The Bulldogs defeated Carthage, Trine, North Central, Albion and Mount St. Joseph during the season.
"We are honored to be the top pick in the MWLC," said head coach John Sung. "We have our top goal this season of winning the first conference championship, but we will have to stay focused on the task each game. We have the talent in place and now just need to execute each game. The non-conference schedule is the toughest we've faced and that will also get us ready for the conference grind."
The Bulldogs received a maximum of 49 points and seven first-place votes in the balloting. Coaches were not permitted to vote for their own school. Carthage received 39 points and the other first-place vote in the poll. Trine University is targeted for third followed by Fontbonne, North Central, Albion, Mount St. Joseph and Concordia (Wis.). The inaugural MWLC Tournament will be played Apr. 30-May 1 at the home site of the regular-season champion.
