ADRIAN, Mich. – The women's hockey team (6-2, 4-2) had another impressive offensive showing by defeating Finlandia (0-6, 0-6), Saturday afternoon, 7-0, in Northern Collegiate Hockey Association action.
With the win, the Bulldogs swept the Lions over the weekend- by a combined score of 20-1, and outshot the Lions by almost 100 shots (114-19), and gained ground in NCHA standings.
Three players accounted for all seven goals as the Bulldogs sent 54 pucks at the Lion net. Kelsey Kusch (3, 4, 5) had three goals, while Hannah McGowan (3, 4) and Lauren Zachwieja (2, 3) each added a pair of goals to account for all of Adrian's scoring.
Alix Vallee led the team in assists with three and had a team-high plus-6. Vallee's three assists with Kusch's three goals today, put both players tied for the team points lead with nine.
Goaltender Brittany Zeches registered her fourth shutout of the season after turning aside eight Finlandia shots.
The Bulldogs took a 1-0 lead after the first period on McGowan's third goal of the season. Adrian would score three goals in both the second and third periods. Kusch would score her third and fourth goals of the season and McGowan would net her fourth goal as well before the second period ended at 4-0. In the third period, Kusch would complete her hat trick followed by a pair of goals by Zachwieja for the 7-0 final.
The team travels to Pittsburgh, Pa. tomorrow for a 2 p.m. non-conference game against Chatham.
