Chad Davis Named Women’s Hockey Head Coach

ADRIAN, Mich. – Adrian College has announced the hiring of Chad Davis as next Head Coach of the Women's Ice Hockey team.

"I am honored to have the opportunity to lead the Adrian College Women's Ice Hockey program," Davis said. "I would like to thank the selection committee and Athletic Department for entrusting me to lead this great hockey program. I am very excited to work with the staff and players in our journey to achieving all of our goals in the 2011-12 season."

Davis joins the Adrian staff after spending last season as a Volunteer Assistant Coach at NCAA Division I Robert Morris (PA) University where he worked with the Colonials goaltenders that finished first in the Atlantic Hockey Conference in team save percentage and goals against average in overall play.

Davis spent the two previous seasons as head coach of Eastern Michigan University of the American Collegiate Hockey Association (ACHA). Prior to being head coach at Eastern Michigan, Davis spent 2006-07 as head coach of Walled Lake Western High School's varsity squad. Before leading the Walled Lake Western staff, Davis spent a season as a defensive assistant coach at Gabriel Richard High School also of the Michigan High School Athletic Association.

"Our women's hockey program is coming off their best year ever and we are excited for what Chad brings to the program," Athletic Director Mike Duffy said. "Chad brings over four years of coaching experience along with playing professional hockey to the program. We feel he can help the program moving forward in the ultimate goal of winning a national championship."

The Bulldogs are coming off their best season ever where they made their first-ever NCAA Tournament appearance and captured the Northern Collegiate Hockey Association (NCHA) tournament championship. Adrian returns all but six players from last season including goaltender Emily Michelin who was named the school's first Reebok First Team All-American. Michelin along with senior defenseman Kelly Salis were named All-NCHA this past season.

"Chad brings a new dimension to the team," Salis said. "I believe his knowledge and passion for the game can only help our team take the next step and allow us compete at an even higher level than we have in the past."

Before joining the coaching ranks, Davis played professionally for the Laredo Bucks of the Central Hockey League. Davis played his college hockey with American International where he appeared in 52 games from 2001-04 where he ranks fifth all-time in wins and total saves.

Davis also severed as an evaluator for USA Hockey at the World University Games. He graduated from American International College in 2004 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration.
