Women's Basketball Opens Season with Wire-to-Wire Victory Over Great Lakes Christian

ADRIAN, Mich.--Junior Shannon Garvey led four Bulldogs in double-digits with a team-high 20 points to lead Adrian to an 81-63 non-conference win Saturday over visiting Great Lakes Christian in women's basketball action.

TOP 'DAWGS
= Garvey fired 7-of-12 field goals, including four 3-pointers, in just 20 minutes of playing time. She added three rebounds and four assists.

= Also scoring in double figures were junior Alivia Kondrath (14), freshman Rylee Campbell (11) and senior Ashley Morris (10).

= Sha'Trice Graves contributed six points, eight rebounds and three blocked shots.

= Classmate Madison Caldwell tied Graves for team-best rebounding honors with eight.

= Sophomore Rachel Bucher dished five assists.

THE OPPOSITION
= Oghenehoke Johnson had a game-best 26 points on 11-for-22 shooting and she had eight rebounds.

= Mystic Striker had a game-high 11 rebounds while scoring 15 points.

= Valerie Kopper just missed a double-double with nine rebounds and nine assists.

= Kerlunda Dervil contributed 18 points, four assists and four steals.

HOW IT HAPPENED
= Adrian never trailed while building as much as a 29-point advantage in the third quarter.

= The Bulldogs dominated the paint by outscoring the Crusaders 38 to 20 in the lane, and also had a 19-11 edge in points-off-turnovers.

= GLC was held to 37.3 percent field goal shooting (25-67).

BEYOND THE BOX SCORE
= Great Lakes Christian College is a National Christian College Athletic Association program out of Lansing.

= The teams were meeting for the first time ever.

= The Crusaders only had one player on the bench and played with no substitutes in the second half when a student-athlete exited the game with a knee injury.

UP NEXT
= Adrian returns to action on Tuesday at Chatham for a 6 p.m. tip-off. The trip to Pittsburgh, Pa., will mark another first-time meeting against a new opponent. The game was originally scheduled for Dec. 20.
