Women's Basketball Swats Spartans in Season Opener at Home, 62-56

ADRIAN, Mich.--Senior Ashley Morris poured in a game-high 22 points, and sophomore Sha'Trice Graves set a school record with eight blocked shots, to propel Adrian to a 62-56 non-conference win over visiting Manchester on Friday.

THE BASICS
Final Score: Adrian College 62, Manchester University 56

TOP 'DAWGS
= Morris shot 9-for-13 from the field and added seven rebounds. 

= In her first career start, Graves scored five points and hauled down a game-high 11 rebounds.

THE OPPOSITION
= Faith-Alexis Graham led the Spartans with 16 points, including four 3-pointers, and a game-best four steals.

= Beth Schaefer topped Manchester with nine rebounds, followed by Macy Miller with eight and Haley Farris, seven.

HOW IT HAPPENED
= Adrian led for most the contest, holding Manchester to 24.2 percent field goal shooting on 15-for-62 from the field for the night.

= The Bulldogs outscored the Spartans in the paint, 28-12.

= After the teams struggled in the early going, Graham's trey with 6 minutes and 29 seconds left broke the ice and gave Manchester its only lead at 3-0.

= The Bulldogs scored the game's next 13 points into the second quarter with 7:42 remaining. Adrian eventually built its largest lead of the game at 22-6, 16 points, on a three-point play from Morris at 5:12. Adrian led 24-15 at the break.

= In the second half, Adrian started on a 6-0 run to go up 30-15 and enjoyed a double-digit most of the time. 

= Manchester did manage to whittle the deficit to 50-46 with under a minute to play, but Adrian didn't break.

BEYOND THE BOX SCORE
= Graves broke the previous AC single-game blocks record held by Emilee Davidson, who had seven at Saint Mary's College on Feb. 10, 2016. As a team, the Bulldogs had eight tonight--two shy of the school record.

= Adrian now leads 2-1 in the all-time series. This was the first meeting between the schools since Jan. 4, 2000 when Adrian won 84-51 at Manchester.

= The Bulldogs are 12-15 in season openers under Coach Kathy Morris.

UP NEXT
= Adrian will have a quick turnaround tomorrow at 5 p.m. when the Bulldogs host Great Lakes Christian College, a National Christian College Athletic Association program out of Lansing.
