ADRIAN, Mich.--Adrian College outscored Alma 21-12 in the fourth quarter to take a come-from-behind 75-70 win Wednesday in a Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association women's basketball opener for both teams.

= Sophomore Shannon Garvey netted a career-high 20 points while shooting 6 for 11 from the field, including four 3-pointers, and 4-for-4 at the charity stripe. She also had five rebounds to pace the squad.
= Also scoring in double digits for the Bulldogs sophomores Emily Somerville, Aly Kubik and Angelina Goosby with 16, 12 and 11 points, respectively. Somerville added three assists, Kubik four steals and Goosby four rebounds.
= Junior Ashley Morris dished seven assists to almost match the entire Alma team (8) and she had two blocked shots.
= Madeline Barnauskas poured in a game-high 23 points on 8-for-14 field goal shooting and 7-of-8 at the free throw line in 31 minutes of action.
= Chloee King also made seven of her eight free throw attempts on the way to scoring 19 points.
= Charley Hengesbach chipped in 11 points and a game-best nine rebounds. She also had three blocks.
= Madison Hill and Emily Long both pulled down six rebounds.
HOW IT HAPPENED
= Somerville scored half of her 16 points in the fourth quarter alone to help spur the Adrian comeback. She drained a trey with 6 minutes and 19 seconds left to pull the Bulldogs within 64-60 and another at the 2:01 mark to make it 71-64 in the visitor's favor.
= With her team trailing 61-54 and 7:30 to go, senior Starnisha Harris (5 points, 4 rebounds, 2 steals) made a layup to spark a 17-3 Adrian run over a 5:29 span as the Bulldogs matched their largest lead of the contest. Somerville's second trey of the quarter culminated the rally.
= Adrian had the advantage from the perimeter, making 12 of 25 three-point shots for 48.0 percent. The Scots were 4-for-17 (23.5%) from the arc.
= The Bulldogs also led 25-17 in points off turnovers.
= There were four ties and seven lead changes in the contest, and the largest lead was seven points by both teams.
= Adrian led 18-17 after the first quarter and Alma won the second, 15-12, to go up 32-30 at the intermission. The Scots also led 58-54 going into the final stanza.
BEYOND THE BOX SCORE
= The Bulldogs have captured the last 10 meetings to close on Alma in the all-time series, 52-46.
= Adrian is 12-14 in MIAA openers--including 3-0 the last two seasons--under 26-year head coach Kathy Morris.
= The Bulldogs top the MIAA in three-point field goal percentage defense at 22.1 percent. Tonight, Alma was at a 23.5 clip.
= Adrian will host nationally seventh-ranked Hope College in its MIAA home opener at the Merillat Sport & Fitness Center on Saturday, starting at 3 p.m.
