Women's Basketball Comes From Behind to Chalk Up First Win of the Season on the Road

ERIE, Pa.--Adrian College outscored host Penn State-Behrend 20-13 in the final quarter to claim a come-from-behind 69-64 victory on the road in non-conference women's basketball action on Sunday afternoon. Sophomore Shannon Garvey scored a season-high 17 points to lead the visiting Bulldogs, who also got 14 points from junior Ashley Morris and 11 from sophomore Angelina Goosby.

TOP 'DAWGS
= Garvey shot 6 for 12 from the field, including four 3-pointers, and added five rebounds, two assists and two steals.

= Sophomore guard Alyssa Kubik (6 points, 4 assists) tied teammates sophomore Emily Somerville and Goosby for game-high honors with nine rebounds.

THE OPPOSITION
= Autumn Byes came off the bench to net a game-best 18 points on 5-for-10 field goal shooting and 8-for-9 from the free throw line. She also had six rebounds and led all student-athletes with six steals.

= Starters Erika Woll (5 assists, 4 steals) and Emily Kinecki added 17 and 15 points, respectively. The latter also pulled down a team-best eight rebounds.

HOW IT HAPPENED
= In the fourth quarter, Adrian finished strong by making 5 of 7 field goals for 71.4 percent while holding the Lions to 29.4 percent (5-17). The Bulldogs, who trailed 51-49 after 30 minutes, also outscored PSU-B 8-2 at the free throw line, attacking the basket the rest of the way. Somerville scored five of her eight points on the day during the fourth quarter, matching Goosby's point total in the decisive frame.

= Adrian trailed by seven points, 56-49, after Kourtney Beamesderfer had a putback for her only points of the game with 9 minutes and 17 seconds to go in the contest.

= The Bulldogs led by 10 points, 31-21, after a Garvey trey at 4:47 of the second quarter to cap a 6-0 run. The Lions ended the first half on a 17-7 run to tie things up at halftime, 38-38. Byes sparked the run with 11 points and three steals.

= The teams made the same number of field goals (23) and free throws (14), but the Bulldogs outscored the Lions from three-point land (9-4).

= Adrian outrebounded PSU-B 52-34, registering a season high in rebounds. Besides Goosby, Kubik and Somerville, freshman Rachel Bucher (7 points) also shined on the glass with a career-high six rebounds and Morris chipped in seven. All five Adrian starters had at least five rebounds.

= The game was closely contested featuring nine ties and eight lead changes.

BEYOND THE BOX SCORE
= Adrian takes a 2-1 lead in the all-time series versus Penn State-Behrend. The 'Dogs also were victorious in the teams' previous meeting back on Nov. 23, 2008, by a 72-69 score.

= The Lions compete in the Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference.
