ADRIAN, Mich.--Adrian College junior Ashley Morris scored a game-high 15 points, but the Bulldogs could not counter a balanced Marietta offense that saw four scorers in double digits in an 84-60 defeat at the hands of the visiting Pioneers in non-conference women's basketball action in the season opener for both schools on Wednesday evening.

THE BASICS

TOP 'DAWGS
= Morris was 5-for-11 from the field and made 5 of 6 free throws. She also had one blocked shot.

= Sophomore Angelina Goosby also reached double digits with 10 points, making three of six field goal attempts and all four free throws. She added five rebounds, three steals and a blocked shot.

= Classmate Alyssa Kubik led all student-athletes with seven rebounds to go along with eight points, three assists, two steals and a blocked shot.

= Sophomore Emily Somerville scored eight points, had four rebounds and dished four assists in her Bulldogs debut after playing her 2015-16 freshman campaign at NAIA-scholarship Siena Heights University across town.

THE OPPOSITION
= Amisha Herd led three Marietta starters among four student-athletes overall in double digits with 13 points. She made six of eight field goal attempts, pulled down four rebounds and had a game-best four steals. 

= Alexis Enochs came off the bench to score 12 points on 6-for-9 field goal shooting.

= Corrie Burkhardt and Jenna Andersen joined fellow starter Herd in double digits with 11 points apiece. Both players also had five rebounds.

= Laura Pullins and Enochs led the Pioneers with six rebounds.

HOW IT HAPPENED
= Marietta raced to a 20-7 lead after the first quarter and never looked back, holding Adrian to 27.3 percent field goal shooting. The Pioneers were 8-for-16 from the field in the first 10 minutes.

= For the first five minutes, the game featured two ties and four lead changes. Somerville drained a 3-pointer from the wing to give the Bulldogs' their final lead of the night at 7-5 with 7 minutes and 41 seconds to go.

= But the Pioneers ended the quarter on a 15-0 run, sparked by a Burkhardt trey from the top of the key to break a 7-all tie at 5:12 left.

= The Pioneers outrebounded Adrian 47 to 28 to yield a 13-5 favor in second chance points. Six Marietta players had four rebounds or more, including Shay Lett (6 assists, 7 points, 2 steals) who had five. 

= Adrian was unable to recover from that huge run and couldn't get closer than 12 points the rest of the way. Marietta built as much as a 32-point lead in the second half.

= Marietta capitalized on 21 Adrian turnovers into 28 points. The Pioneers also outscored the Bulldogs in the paint, 44-10.

= The visitors shot 47.8 percent (33-69) from the floor while holding Adrian to 37.0 percent (20-54).

BEYOND THE BOX SCORE
= The Pioneers take a 2-1 series lead after avenging an 89-84 loss to the Bulldogs in Marietta, Ohio, in the 2016-17 season opener.

= Marietta is a member of the Ohio Athletic Conference, where the Pioneers are picked to finish fourth in the women's basketball title race.

= The Bulldogs are 11-15 in season openers under 26-year head coach Kathy Morris.
