ADRIAN, Mich. – The women's basketball team took on No. 12 Hope College Saturday night. The Bulldogs battled to a 34-34 tie with17:28 remaining in the game, but the Flying Dutch slowly pulled away as they took Adrian out, 65-48.
The Bulldogs played Hope to a 32-28 halftime score led by Jorden York as she went 4-4 from the field for 11 points. Adrian battled to contain Hope's Maura McAfee, but she recorded a first half double-double on the way to 26 points and 16 rebounds for the game. Adrian fought to stay in the game as they remained consistent from behind the arch with a 10-18 (55.6%) performance as a team.
Hope was able to break a 34-34 tie in the second half and take a 17-0 run that left Adrian behind. York recorded six more points in the second half while Brigitte Zavithsanos and Antoinea McElroy each totaled five to lead the Adrian attack.
The Flying Dutch were able to fight off the Bulldogs to leave the overall record for Adrian at 6-11 with a 2-7 mark in the MIAA. York finished with 17 points on 6-7 shooting and three steals while Zavithsanos recorded 13 points.
The Bulldogs will see action again on January 26 when they travel across town to take on Siena Heights University at 8 p.m.
