BRONX, N.Y. – The women's basketball team faced host Lehman College in the championship game of the Coaches versus Cancer Tournament Monday afternoon. The Bulldogs overcame a 33-32 Lehman halftime lead to hold a 66-65 lead late, but Lehman hit a game-winning three point shot with .3 seconds remaining to stun the Bulldogs and take the game. The 68-66 loss drops Adrian to 4-6 on the season.
The Bulldogs jumped out on Lehman early by scoring the first eight points of the game. Adrian used this momentum to carry a 17-11 lead with 13:53 left in the half, but Lehman responded with a 6-0 run that tied the game at 17. The teams would battle with Lehman taking the 33-32 advantage to the break.
Adrian would let Lehman extend their lead to as many as seven in the second half before the Bulldogs went on a 6-0 run to erase a 53-47 deficit with 7:29 remaining. Adrian would go on to carry a 66-65 lead with eight seconds remaining before Lehman hit the game-winning three point shot with .3 seconds remaining on the clock to stun the Bulldogs and win the tournament.
The Bulldogs were able to regain their lead in the second half behind Marissa Cotton as she recorded 19 points six rebounds and three steals. Jorden York totaled 10 points and four assists. Antoinea McElroy came off of the bench to record 11 rebounds while Amber McCullough totaled 10 points.
York and Cotton earned all-tournament selections following their outstanding performances over the weekend.
