ADRIAN, Mich. – The women's basketball team (4-12, 3-5) lost to No. 2 Calvin College (14-1, 8-0), 85-62, Wednesday night in a Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association matchup.
The Lady Bulldogs started well and took a 10-5 lead about five minutes in, but the Knights showed why they are currently ranked second in the nation by taking a 14-point lead at halftime, 39-25. Adrian could not keep pace with Calvin's near 42 percent field goal shooting, although the Bulldogs did go 5-for-8 from beyond the arc in the first half.
The Bulldogs had two six-point runs during the game. In the first half while trailing 4-5, they took a 10-5 lead. In the second half while trailing 25-44, they cut the deficit to 31-44.
Calvin outscored Adrian by nine points in the second half, 46-37. Calvin again had an advantage in field goal percentage, 39-35; but the Bulldogs again held the edge in three-point percentage, 33-31.
Three Adrian players registered double-digit performances.
Fougerousse sank five shots from beyond the arc and led the team in steals with four.
Walker sank three three-pointers and pulled down 10 rebounds on the night. Antoinea McElroy added nine points off three field goals and three free throws.
The Bulldogs next two conference games will be on the road at Albion on Jan. 19th; and then at Saint Mary's on Jan.23rd.
