ADRIAN, Mich. - Senior Jasmine Byers set a career-high with 17 rebounds and scored 13 points in a 67-56 win over Anderson University on Sunday, Dec. 30. The Bulldogs move to 4-8 overall and are now 4-1 at the Merillat Gymnasium this season.
Byers grabbed eight offensive rebounds and went 5-of-6 from the floor in 29 minutes. Adrian never gave up the lead during the game and the score was tied just once. After a 2-2 tie, Adrian went on a 10-2 run to take a 12-4 lead with 13:56 left in the first half. Anderson answered with their own run to cut the lead to 14-12 in the next four-plus minutes. The Bulldogs went back up by eight, 28-20, with 4:03 left in the first half after a jumper by LaQwana Dockery. She finished with a team-high 15 points off the bench going 6-of-15 from the floor but was 4-of-8 in the second half when she scored 11 of her points.
Adrian led 30-23 at intermission shooting 38.7 percent (12-of-31) from the floor. Antoinea McElroy scored six points in the first half and finished with 10 points and eight rebounds.
The Ravens cut the lead down to one twice in the first three-plus minutes of the second half. The Bulldogs though would not give up the lead and took a 45-36 lead with 11:10 left in the contest. The Bulldogs would further increase their lead to 59-45 with 6:27 left and the Ravens would not get closer than seven for the rest of the game.
Adrian shot 42.3 percent in the second half and finished 40.4 percent (23-of-57) for the game. Casey Fougerousse scored 12 points on four made three-pointers and also snatched five boards in 31 minutes. On the glass it was the Bulldogs holding a 49-34 edge including 15 offensive boards. The Bulldogs finished with seven blocked shots and 10 steals.
