ADRIAN, Mich. - The Adrian College women's basketball team fell to 3-8 overall on Saturday afternoon with an 83-50 loss to 15th-ranked Ohio Northern University. The game was close to the first half until the Polar Bears used a 19-0 run to break an 11-11 tie and the Bulldogs would not get any closer than 17 points for the rest of the contest.
Adrian and Ohio Northern were deadlocked with 14:08 left in the first half and then Adrian could not score for 3:53 of game time as the Polar Bears (11-1) went on their monster run to pull away. Amber McCullough broke the run with a field goal at 7:03 but ONU scored the next seven points to lead 37-13 with 5:22 left in the first half. Adrian trailed 42-25 at the break as ONU shot 52.9 percent from the floor compared to 33.3 percent for the home team.
Antoinea McElroy provided a spark off the bench in the second half scoring eight points and grabbing five rebounds. The Bulldogs shot just 27.8 percent in the second half and were 1-of-13 from behind the arc. Ohio Northern finished shooting 48.4 percent from the floor and all 14 players who played scored at least two points. Cenzie Yoder led the Polar Bears with 18 points and seven rebounds. ONU had 18 assists on 31 field goals as three players led the team with three each.
Jasmine Byers led all players in the game with 10 rebounds giving her three double-digit games on the glass this season. Casey Fougerousse scored eight points and dished out three assists in 24 minutes. Both teams grabbed 43 rebounds as Adrian held a 17-10 edge on the offensive glass.
