WHEATON, Ill.--The Adrian College men's wrestling team climbed two spots to end up in 19th place out of 35 schools on the final day at the prestigious Pete Willson Invitational held on the Wheaton College campus in King Arena on Saturday. The Bulldogs scored 34-1/2 points.
Senior co-captain Zach Rieger led the way for the Bulldogs with a fourth-place showing at 285 pounds where he reached the championship quarterfinals before losing a tough 4-2 decision to Gabriel Mahaney out of Baldwin Wallace. In the third-place match, Rieger lost another close bout to Millikin's Myron Hamilton, 7-5.
On the day, Rieger posted a 5-2 mark after receiving a first-round bye, then winning his first match via a 2:60 pin over Dan Kiser (Messiah) and again in 4:43 against Tyler Burt from Wisconsin-Eau Claire.
Messiah edged Mount Union in the team standings, 137 points to 130-1/2.
