Michael Burkhardt Earns First Career MCVL Player of the Week Award

CEDAR RAPIDS, IOWA -- Adrian College Michael Burkhardt (Whitehall, Pa.) was named the Midwest Collegiate Volleyball League (MCVL) Offensive Player of the Week as announced by the league office on Tuesday. This is the first conference player of the week award of his career and first for the men's volleyball program at Adrian College since joining the MCVL in 2015-16.

Burkhardt had a busy week for the Bulldogs as he helped lead the team on both offensive and defensive in his first match of the week, a 3-1 win over Olivet. He tallied 14 kills, two service aces, and a match-high six blocks in the win over the Comets. He also finished the match with a season-high .684 hitting percentage.

Burkhardt added nine kills and two blocks in match two against crosstown rival Siena Heights University on Saturday (March 10) to bring his stat line for the week to 23 kills, two service aces, two digs, and eight blocks. His hitting percentage for the two matches was .519.

The Bulldogs host the current league-leader, Mount St. Joseph this Friday, March 16 at the Merillat Sports and Fitness Center. The match is scheduled to begin at 7:00 p.m., ET. Adrian will host another MCVL opponent the next day, Saturday, March 17 at 1:00 p.m., ET, when Wittenberg comes to town.
