ADRIAN, Mich. – It was a hot day on the courts on Wednesday and the men's tennis team had some hot rackets as well with a 9-0 victory over visiting Manchester University in the opener for the Bulldogs. The team dominated doubles giving up just one game in three matches. Jordan Verbauwhede and Joey Loselle teamed up for the first time at one doubles and cruised 8-0. Michael Mertz and Alex Amos won 8-1 at two doubles and Ryan Delacy and Spencer Georgetti scored an 8-0 win at three doubles.
"It was good to finally get on the courts for our first match," said head coach Adam Albertsen. "I was very pleased with some of the results from a couple of our new doubles pairings. All three teams got off to a quick start and helped jumpstart the match."
The six singles matches also went in the favor of Adrian College in straight sets. Loselle had a very impressive debut in singles with a 6-1, 6-1 win in the two-spot. Verbauwhede cruised 6-0 in the first set at one singles and then held on to win 7-5 in the deciding set. Troy Gargrave saw action at five singles and won his matchup 6-4, 6-0. Alex Kret also played in his first singles match and won 6-4, 6-4 at six singles.
"Manchester came out and battled in singles and really challenged us," said Albertsen. "Joey was very impressive in taking care of his match and stepped up big for us today in singles and doubles with Jordan Verbauwhede."
The Bulldogs will be back at Craft Tennis Complex on Friday at 3:30 p.m. as they host Saint Francis (Ind.).
