WOOSTER, Ohio - Adrian College juniors Tad Davis (Trenton, Mich./Trenton High School) and Chris Stanhope (Dearborn, Mich./Edsel Ford HS) were named to the 2017 College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) Academic All-District® 6 Men's Soccer Team, which was announced on Thursday. They now advance to the national ballot for CoSIDA Academic All-America® consideration; the first-, second-, and third-team Academic All-America teams will be announced in December.
The all-district team recognizes the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances athletically and in the classroom.
Davis and Stanhope were two of four Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) men's soccer student-athletes to be chosen NCAA Division III, District 6 Academic All-District® Team, which includes student-athletes from institutions based in Michigan, Minnesota and Wisconsin. (The other two men's soccer athletes were Trent Vegter and Jacob Witte both of Calvin College.)
On the field, Davis led the Bulldogs with 12 points (3g,6a) for the 2017 campaign. His six assists--a career-best--are tied for sixth in the MIAA. Stanhope scored one point (assist) for the Bulldogs this season as a defenseman. He helped anchor an Adrian back line that allowed the second-fewest goals against per game with 1.21. Both academic all-conference standouts, Davis is a two-time All-MIAA Second Team choice and Stanhope made the first unit as a sophomore.
In the classroom, Stanhope carries an overall 3.94 grade-point average as an exercise science major while Davis is a 3.91 in business administration (and a communications minor).
This fall, the Bulldogs tied last year's school record of 11 victories (11-6-2) and competed in the MIAA championship game for the first time ever. Adrian also had its best conference finish of second place (9-3-2) in team history.
