Maluta Selected to Play in Lax World/USILA North/South games
ADRIAN, Mich. – Adrian College men's lacrosse recent graduate Josh Maluta (Naperville, Ill./Neuqua Valley) has been selected to participate in the 2011 Lax World/USILA North/South games. The Division III game will be held on Friday, May 27 at Goucher College in Towson, Md. starting at 3 p.m.
Maluta will play for the South team as the first-ever Adrian representative to play in the North/South game. Maluta was the only player selected out of the Midwest Lacrosse Conference.
Maluta finished his final season with the Bulldogs leading the team with 35 assists, was second in points with 59 and fourth in goals with 24. Maluta finished his four year career at Adrian with 186 points (74g, 112a). Maluta's career marks places him first in points and assists and sixth in goals. Maluta also ranks third in groundballs with 153.
The Division III South Team will be coached by Todd Cavallaro who is in his fourth season as the head coach at Franklin and Marshall College. Todd spent the previous five years as an assistant at Penn where the Quakers advanced to the NCAA playoffs in 2004.
The North/South game began in 1940, when Baltimore hosted the inaugural game, and has been the site for 23 North/South contests. Sixty-nine total games have been played with interruptions occurring only in 1944 and 1945. In 1991, the USILA split the event and created two games; one for Division I-II players and another for the Division III players. This two game format was interrupted in 2006 when a special committee of the USILA recommended returning to one game but combining all divisions. The following year, 2007, saw the return to two separate games.
