INDIANAPOLIS--The NCAA has released the first of four regional rankings in NCAA Division III Men's Hockey on Tuesday, and Adrian College is No. 1 in the West Region. The Bulldogs are 21-4 overall against all Division III opponents.
The regional rankings are used to determine both NCAA tournament bids and seedings by the Division III Men's Ice Hockey Championship Committee. Additional rankings will follow on February 20 and February 27, while the final rankings generated on March 4 and used to determine the NCAA tournament selections will be released on March 5. The numbers used by the regional committees to generate these rankings are sometimes made available to the public.
In the West, Adrian is followed by St. Norbert, Wisconsin-Stevens Point, Marian (Wis.) and Saint John's (Minn.). In the East, Oswego State, Salve Regina, University of New England and Trinity (Conn.) are the top four teams.
Adrian also is ranked No. 1 in the nation by U.S. College Hockey Online (USCHO.com) and D3hockey.com polls. The four-time-reigning Northern Collegiate Hockey Association Peters Cup champions will be the No. 1 overall seed in the 2018 Harris Cup Playoffs, which commences this weekend as Milwaukee School of Engineering invades Arrington Ice Area on Friday at 7:05 p.m. and Saturday at 3:05 p.m. Get tickets online!
Senior captain Mathew Thompson (14+12) and junior defenseman Cory Dunn (3+23) lead the team with 26 points apiece. Senior assistant captain Taylor McCloy (25 points) and junior Trevor Boyd (24 points) are tied for the team goal-scoring lead with 15. Dunn also paces AC with 23 assists. Junior goalie Kevin Entmaa has compiled a 13-2 won-lost record with 1.73 goals-against average and .936 save percentage.
