Bulldogs Make Season Debut at No. 1 in USCHO.com NCAA Division III National Rankings

USCHO Rankings l D3hockey.com polls for Jan. 22, 2018

ADRIAN, Mich.--On the strength of a seven-game winning streak, the Adrian College men's hockey team has vaulted to the top spot in the NCAA Division III rankings, according to U.S. College Hockey Online (USCHO.com) which released the new poll on Monday. The Bulldogs received 10 first-place votes among 283 points from a panel of coaches and hockey writers from across the country. This marks Adrian's first USCHO No. 1 ranking since March 7, 2016.

Fellow Northern Collegiate Hockey Association member St. Norbert (4, 264), which will be visiting the Bulldogs at Arrington Ice Arena at 7:05 p.m. Friday, Wisconsin-Stevens Point (4, 259) and Endicott (2, 246) also are receiving first-place votes from USCHO.

In the D3hockey.com Top-15, Adrian rises one spot to No. 3 in a nationwide poll of media members, sports information directors and coaches, getting five first-place votes and 266 points. The SNC Green Knights maintain their D3hockey No. 1-ranking with 276 points (9 first-place votes), followed by UW-Stevens Point (273, 4) and Adrian.

The Bulldogs take a 15-4 overall record and 11-1 NCHA-South Division ledger, into this weekend's conference games at home versus the Green Knights (15-3-1, 10-2) and Finlandia (Saturday at 3:05 p.m., 1-17-1/0-11-1). Adrian has been excelling at both ends of the ice during the longest win streak of the season, evidenced by scoring 4.14 goals per game while giving up only 1.14. In 19 contests overall, Adrian lists sixth in the nation in scoring offense, third in scoring margin, fourth in scoring defense and tied for first in victories. The winning streak is currently the third longest behind St. Scholastica (10 in a row) and University of New England (8).

Senior captain Mathew Thompson leads the team with 11 goals and 21 total points. Junior defenseman Cory Dunn also has 21 points, including 19 assists for a first-place tie among Division III blueliners nationally. Senior assistant captain Taylor McCloy ties Thompson for the goal-scoring lead among 20 points.
