No. 2-Ranked Men's Hockey Earns 3-1 Post Thanksgiving Victory over Trine University at Home

ADRIAN, Mich.--Brian Bachnak, Chase Matson and Braden Hellems each scored a goal to lead nationally-ranked Adrian College to a 3-1 home win over visiting Trine University in a post-Thanksgiving game between Northern Collegiate Hockey Association opponents on Saturday.

THE BASICS
= Final Score: Adrian College 3, Trine University 1

= Records: Adrian Bulldogs 6-1 overall (5-1 NCHA South Division); Trine Thunder 0-8-1 overall (0-5-1 NCHA South Division); Non-conference game

TOP 'DAWGS
= Both senior assistant captain Taylor McCloy and sophomore Vincent Paquette led Adrian with two points--both assists.

= Matson, a junior, finished with three shots on goal, a plus-1 rating and was 8-for-17 on face-offs.

= Classmate Hellems scored the Bulldogs' third goal and had a game-high six shots on goal from his defensive position.

= Bachnak, a junior, had four shots to go with a plus-1.

= Senior goalie Dillon Kelley made 17 stops to improve to 2-0 on the season.

= Face-off winners were senior captain Mathew Thompson (12-for-20), and juniors Connor Armour (13-for-15), Bryan Yim (10-for-14), plus McCloy win all three of his draws.

THE OPPOSITION
= Goalie Brett Young earned the Third Star of the Game with a 42-save performance.

= Corey Robertson scored Trine's lone goal with assists from Alex Johanson and Max DiCicco.

= Johanson was 9-for-16 in the face-off dot.

HOW IT HAPPENED
= Adrian outshot Trine by a wide margin of 45 to 18.

= Bachnak got the scoring started with 6 minutes and 21 seconds left in the opening stanza. He wristed a shot in the high slot after taking a feed from right-wing boards by Paquette.

= Matson scored what proved to be the game-winner while Adrian was killing a penalty in the second period. McCloy pounced on a turnover in the Trine zone and got a shot off on Young, and then Matson knocked home the rebound near the left post for a 2-0 Bulldogs advantage at the 4:26 mark.

= Trine cut the deficit in half nearly eight minutes later. Corey Robertson was credited with the goal when his centering pass from the right wing deflected off an AC player's skate and the puck crossed the goal line.

= Hellems added an insurance goal with 1:12 left in the third period, taking a feed from McCloy who won the puck in a scrum along the left wing boards.

= With Adrian holding on to a 2-1 lead late in the final frame, the Bulldogs successfully killed off a 2-minute minor penalty. 

BEYOND THE BOX SCORE
= Tonight marked the third time in eight days the teams have met. The NCHA games that counted in the standings occurred on Friday, Nov. 17 in Angola, Indiana--a 6-3 win--and Saturday, Nov. 18 here in Adrian, an 8-1 triumph again for the Bulldogs. This third meeting was a designated non-conference contest.

= In three all-time meetings with the Thunder, Adrian has plus differential of 12 goals (17-5) and 83 shots on goal (146-63)

= Kelley is 11-1 lifetime with a 2.00 goals-against average and hasn't suffered a defeat since 2016 sophomore campaign.

= McCloy now has 50 assists in his career.

= The Bulldogs have killed off 13 consecutive opponent power play opportunities.
