ADRIAN, Mich.--The Adrian College men's hockey team held its annual Black & Gold intrasquad game Sunday afternoon in Arrington Arena, with the Bulldog newcomers taking center stage. Junior Nick Erb scored his second goal of the day with 71 seconds left in overtime to lift the Gold past the Black, 3-2.

During the 3-on-3 extra five-minute period, both teams had scoring chances. Freshman goalie Nikita Babintsev made a couple of outstanding saves on odd-man rushes for the Black, maintaining the 2-2 score until junior defenseman Cameron Cooper fed Erb in the slot for the game-winning deke around the goalie.

Erb also tallied the game-tying goal on an assist from senior Austin Rust at 9:55 in the third period to force overtime. Erb played his previous two seasons at fellow Northern Collegiate Hockey Association member Concordia University-Wisconsin.

The Black scored both of its goals in the third stanza. Freshman defenseman Dean Hewines scored from the point on a screen at the 6:20 mark, then 2 minutes and 1 second later senior Kyle Brothers gave Black a 2-1 lead on assists from senior Taylor McCloy and sophomore Matt McNair. Junior Connor Armour assisted on Hewines' goal.

Sophomore Ryan Cusin gave the Gold a 1-0 advantage at the 11:56 mark of the opening period. He was assisted by Cooper and senior captain Mathew Thompson. Cusin was third-team All-New England Hockey Conference and 2017 All-USCHO.com Rookie Team during his freshman season at UMass-Boston.

Babintsev was credited with the win after making a game-high 17 saves. McNair added an 8-4 record on face-offs.
