WILMINGTON, Ohio--Michael Hoy (South Lyon, Mich./Texas Tornado, NAHL), a recent graduate of the Adrian College men's hockey program, has been named to the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) Academic All-District® VI Men's At-Large Division III team. Hoy now advances to the national ballot for Academic All-America consideration as that award will be announced June 6.
The CoSIDA at-large program comprises 12 men's Olympic-style sports. Hoy and nine other student-athletes were voted to the District 6 team by sports information directors from institutions based in Michigan, Wisconsin and Minnesota.
The only Northern Collegiate Hockey Association student-athlete on the CoSIDA Academic All-District ® VI Team, Hoy is a member of five national honor societies. He graduated with a double-degree in biology and Spanish, recording a 3.95 grade-point average. He plans to attend graduate school at the University of Kentucky on scholarship studying speech and language pathology. He served as a biology tutor to his fellow classmates at Adrian College.
On the ice this season, he contributed a goal and had nine assists for 10 total points from his defensive position in 28 games played. He notched eight points in conference-play only. He helped the Bulldogs (20-7-2 overall) to a Peters Cup regular-season three-peat with a 17-3 NCHA record, the program's seventh NCAA Division III Men's Ice Hockey Championship appearance, No. 4 year-end national ranking and third-place national finish. Hoy was the 2017 runner-up for the Elite 90 in men's hockey, tabulating the second-best overall GPA at the finals site. He was a member of the 2014 All-NCHA Freshman Team.
Hoy's community service included Spanish translator for UK Dental Clinic, Adrian College Rake & Run, Habitat for Humanity, Adrian College President's Dinner server and Learn to Skate.
