Gold Team Skates Past Spartans
On Saturday, the ACHA D3 Gold Bulldogs hosted the Michigan State Spartans at Arrington Ice Arena. The Spartans got off to a fast start, scoring at the 5:04 mark of the first period. The Bulldogs responded with back-to-back goals by sophomores Doug Raymond and Anthony Rossi in a one-minute span near the end of the first.
Rossi got his second of the game, a nice deflection off of Junior Kyle Wood’s slap shot, halfway through the second to put the Bulldogs up by two. Although the Spartans scored shortly after to make it close, the Bulldogs held on for a 3-2 win on the back of goalie Garrett Knappe, who made 40 saves for his second win of the season.
Defenseman Fred Krause continued his recent hot streak with another assist, while forward Eddie Schaeffer, although held off the score sheet, had another strong performance with a team-high four shots. The Bulldogs travel to Detroit on Friday to play the University of Detroit, Mercy, where they aim to keep their winning streak alive.
