ACHA Black Falls 6-5 to UD-Mercy

ADRIAN, Mich. – On Saturday, October 23rd the Bulldogs faced University of Detroit Mercy and got their first loss of the season in a shootout (6-5).

The first period didn’t go as planned for the Bulldogs. Detroit Mercy scored twice that period, and made the Bulldogs go to the locker room with 2-0 deficit on the scoreboard.

In the second period, Adrian’s Mikhail Murashov finally got the Bulldogs on the board, assisted by Daniel Sprys and Ryan Maloney, to cut the deficit to 2-1. Then, the Titans scored again and changed the score to 3-1. Murashov, once again, found the back of the net for the second time to change the difference to 3-2. Unfortunately, Detroit Mercy answered with a fourth goal in the end of the second period making it 4-2 after 40 minutes.

The final period was the most successful period for the Bulldogs. Murashov scored his third goal of the night right in the beginning of the period, recording a hat trick to get AC within one at 4-3. The Titans answered with another goal in the middle of the period to take a 5-3 lead. The Bulldogs once again rallied and tied the game by the end of regulation. First, Adrian’s Zack Paulakovich scored, assisted by Bob Bailey and then Enrico Marson scored, assisted by Alec Latin and Cole Rochowiak.

The game went into overtime, but the teams could not end it in a five-minute period. They had to take it to the shootout to decide a winner. Unfortunately, the Bulldogs lost 1-0 in the shootout and 6-5 for the game.

In the net was freshman Evan Bjerk for Adrian. It was his first game of the season, facing 36 shots and allowing just five goals during regulation. With this tough loss, Adrian’s ACHA D3 Black moves to 4-1 on the season and gets ready for the next away game against Muskegon Community College on Saturday, November 6th.
