Gold Squad Splits with Central Michigan
The ACHA Division III Gold Team split a weekend series with the Central Michigan Chippewas this past weekend losing 5-3 Friday night and winning an overtime thriller 7-6 on Saturday night.
On Friday night the Chippewas played host as the Bulldogs traveled to Mt. Pleasant for a 9:00 start. Over the first two periods the two teams would trade goals with Adrian leading after two periods by a score of 3-2. Adrian got goals from Doug Raymond, Ethan Maltz and Joey Laflamme.
The two teams battled for the first two periods and Adrian seemed to have the upper hand after 40 minutes of play. The third period belonged to the Chippewas as they scored two unanswered goals before adding an empty-net goal to the mix to clinch the 5-3 win.
Saturday night the Bulldogs were able to build leads but unable to keep them as they once again allowed several Chippewa comebacks to make it a close game. Adrian saw leads of 4-1 and 6-4 disappear and allowed CMU to comeback and force an overtime period. In the overtime period Adrian was able to take advantage of a big CMU penalty and capitalize as Doug Raymond scored with just over 1:30 remaining in the OT period. The Bulldogs return to action this Thursday night as the Jets from Jackson Community College travel to Arrington Ice Arena to face off with the Bulldogs.
