Hemm, Fritz, Whittington and Taylor Highlight 2010 All-MIAA Selections

ROYAL OAK, Mich. - The Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) announced its 2010 All-Conference teams on Tuesday (Nov. 16) and Adrian College had a total of nine players selected either First or Second Team by the league's coaches. Sophomore Justin Hemm (Piqua, Ohio/Piqua) was a First Team All-MIAA pick at wide receiver. Junior Spencer Whittington (Paw Paw, Mich./Lawrence) was a First Team All-MIAA honoree at offensive line. Seniors Austin Fritz (Ayersville, Ohio/Ayersville) and Danny Taylor (Commerce Twp., Mich./White Lake Lakeland) were also selected First Team All-MIAA at defensive end and linebacker respectively.

Hemm had a breakout season as a wide receiver and also played quarterback at times during the season. He caught 50 passes for 734 yards and nine touchdowns during the final eight games of the season. Hemm ranked fifth in the MIAA in receptions per game (5.0), fifth in scoring (6.6 ppg) and sixth in receiving yards per game (73.4). He set career-highs with 10 receptions for 147 yards and also scored a pair of touchdowns in the season finale at Alma.

Whittington had a solid season at offensive tackle and played and started in all 10 games for the Bulldogs. He helped the Bulldogs average 383.4 yards per game this season and 25.9 points per game.

Fritz was a four-year letter winner at Adrian College and tallied a career-best 47 tackles this season. He also had 10 tackles for a loss of 51 yards and six sacks for a loss of 39 yards. He ranked third in the MIAA in sacks this season. For his career, he had 127 tackles with 29.5 tackles for loss and 14.5 sacks.

Taylor was team captain this season and led the team with a career-best 79 tackles. He also had 5.5 tackles for a loss of 31 yards and two sacks for a loss of 20 yards. Taylor tied for ninth in the MIAA in tackles per game (7.9) this season. He finished his career with 196 tackles.

The Bulldogs also had five Second Team selections including senior Mike McGee (Columbus, Ohio/Brookhaven), junior Jared Edwards (Bellbrook, Ohio/Bellbrook), junior Nick Ross (Manchester, Mich./Manchester), senior Jarred Kwiatkowski (Warren, Mich./Cousino) and junior Chris Cook (Hartford, Mich./Hartford).

McGee rewrote the record book while at Adrian College playing in every game during his four-year career for a total of 40 games. McGee set single-season school records in 2010 with 183 completions, 2,302 passing yards and 19 passing touchdowns. In addition, he leaves Adrian College with career records in passing attempts (815), completions (494), yards (6,643), touchdowns (49) and completion percentage (60.6).

Edwards had a fantastic year running the football finishing with 1,011 rushing yards. He had three 200-yard games during the season including a career-high 250 yards against Kalamazoo, which was five yards shy of the school record. Edwards ranked second in the MIAA in rushing yards per game (101.1) and fourth in all-purpose yards per game (142.6). He carried the ball 179 times for a 5.6 average and had five touchdowns on the ground. Edwards also caught 17 passes for 163 yards and a score. He also had 92 yards on punt returns and 160 yards on kickoff returns.

Ross paved the way for record-breaking performances by the Adrian offense. He started at guard all 10 games and helped the Bulldogs average 383.4 yards per game this season and 25.9 points per game.

Kwiatkowski ranked second on the team with 68 tackles this season and 17th in the MIAA in tackles per game (6.8). Kwiatkowski played and started in all 10 games and had four tackles for a loss of six yards. He also had two fumble recoveries. Kwiatkowski had a season-high 14 tackles against Trine and also had 11 stops against Augustana.

Cook roamed in the secondary at safety and ranked third on the team with 61 tackles. He led the team with four interceptions for 48 return yards. Cook tied for third in the MIAA in interceptions and was 22nd in the conference in tackles. He currently has 109 career tackles and six interceptions for 116 return yards in 27 games at Adrian College.
