Feb. 17, 2010
ADRIAN, Mich. - The Adrian College men's basketball team picked up a big win over Hope College on Wednesday. The Bulldogs led by 10 points at halftime, and won by the final score of 73-68.
Matt Wayne played great for Adrian. Wayne scored a game-high 19 points and added eight rebounds in his final regular season game at the Merillat Center. Jovon Mosley and Wesley Reed also scored in double figures for AC. Mosley did damage from the free throw line by connecting on 10 of his 11 attempts. Reed went 3-for-5 from behind the arc, and ended the game with 13 points.
Peter Bunn scored a team-high 18 points for Hope. Bunn was a perfect 3-for-3 from three point range. He also helped the team by collecting five boards and adding three assists. The Flying Dutchmen got additional scoring from Chris Neils, David Krombeen, and Andy Venema.
Adrian shot 46 percent from the floor in the first half and got out to a 10 point lead at halftime. They were able to hold onto the lead for the entire second half despite multiple runs from the Flying Dutchmen. Hope shot 60 percent from the floor in the second half, but AC kept their composure and secured the lead by hitting their free throws. Adrian went 22-for-26 from the charity stripe.
Another large factor in the game came from the sideline. Adrian outscored Hope's bench 28-5. Reed was one of many Adrian players to impact the game by coming off the bench. The freshman from Piqua, Ohio hit a huge three pointer in the closing minutes of the game to give Adrian their final push for the victory. That shot marked the only made three pointer of the half for Adrian.
The win against Hope gives Adrian sole possession of third place in the MIAA standings. Calvin stands alone as the number one team, and Hope stands at second with one game remaining in the regular season.
