Men's Hoops Holds Tough With Hope

ADRIAN, Mich. – The Adrian College men's basketball team lost to Hope College 71-62 at home on Wednesday, Feb. 6 in Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) play. It was an intense and physical battle, with the two teams combining for 38 fouls in the game.

THE BASICS

Records: Adrian 3-19 (0-11 MIAA), Hope 13-9 (6-5 MIAA)

HOW IT HAPPENED

Adrian showed a lot of resiliency in the first half, sticking with Hope despite being down double digits. The Flying Dutch led 22-11 with just under nine minutes remaining but the Bulldogs wouldn't quit. AC went on a 21-12 run to close out the first half only down two points. 34-32. The physical and emotional nature of the game was highlighted early in the contest, with double technicals being assessed to each team five minutes into the game. Sophomore guard Jordan Harris led the Black and Gold at the break, scoring 11 of his game-high 27 points in the first half.

The taller Flying Dutchmen proved to be too much for Adrian to handle in the second half and pulled away for a nine-point, 71-62 victory. Hope led by as many as 16 but the Bulldogs were always able to find a way to claw back. Neither team shot the ball well from beyond the arc, combining for just eight made three-point attempts. Hope shot 23.8% from deep while AC connected at just a 12.5% clip. The Flying Dutchmen also moved the ball around better, finishing with 16 assists as a team to the Bulldogs' three.

TOP DOGS

• Harris led the Bulldogs' offense with 27 points. Harris scored 27 points in both games against the Flying Dutchmen this year.

• Junior forward Ke'Shaun Wyatt-Morris led the team in rebounds with nine boards for the second straight game while classmate Jeremy Kalonji collected seven rebounds and added 11 points.

THE OPPOSITION

• Jason Beckman was the leading scorer for Hope, scoring 23 points in the game.

• Starting center Preston Granger finished with a game-high 10 rebounds.

UP NEXT

The Bulldogs remain at home this weekend and host Olivet on Saturday, Feb. 9 as part of a doubleheader with the women's team. The men tipoff against the Comets at 1 p.m. with the women playing Olivet shortly after, at 3 p.m.
