Adrian Triumphs Over Albion 67-62 to Remain on Top of MIAA Standings

ADRIAN, Mich. – Four Adrian starters scored double-digit points in a 67-62 over Albion on Wednesday night at the Merillat Sports and Fitness Center. Justin Webster scored 17 points to lead the Bulldogs in scoring in the win.

HOW IT HAPPENED

Adrian started the game with a 6-0 run after the opening basket was made by the Britons to jump out to a 6-2 lead with 16:48 left in the opening half. Albion cut the deficit down to one point before Keyon Rainey hit a three-point jumper to give the Bulldogs an 11-7 lead—the largest lead of the half for Adrian—with 13:19 left before halftime.

The Britons cut the lead again to just one point, 11-10, before taking a 16-13 lead with a 6-0 run. Albion gained its largest lead of the first half after a made layup put the score at 26-19 with just 3:19 left before the teams entered the locker room. The Bulldogs ended the half with a 5-0 run that cut the Britons lead to just one point, 29-28.

The Britons extended their lead to six points, 36-30, after a 5-0 run at the beginning of the second. Adrian fought back and tied the score after a 6-0 run with 15:15 left to play. Albion immediately responded with its own 6-0 run that the Bulldogs matched with back-to-back three's that tied the game at 42 with 12:15 remaining in regulation.

The Britons would hold a three-point advantage twice more before a three-point jumper from Sam Colbert with 9:24 left gave Adrian a 48-47 lead. The score would tie twice more, once at 50 and again at 52. The teams would trade leads before Jeremy Kalonji hit from behind the arc to spark a 5-0 run for Adrian that gave the team a four-point edge, 60-56 with just 4:04 left on the clock.

Jamezell Davis, Jr., made a three-point jumper to cut the Bulldog lead to just one-point (60-59), however, Tre'Shon Heard would respond with a three of his own to put Adrian back up by four, 63-59 with only 1:34 remaining. After an Albion three, the Bulldogs scored the last four points of the game to seal the victory.

TOP DOGS

• Webster hauled in eight rebounds in addition to his game-high in points.

Jeremy Kalonji scored 16 points on 5-7 shooting from the floor and 3-5 from behind the arc.

Tre'Shon Heard had 12 points, eight rebounds, and team-high four assists.

Sam Colbert tallied 11 points--nine of which came from three--while having a game-high four steals as well as five rebounds.

THE OPPOSITION

• Quinton Armstrong led the Britons with 14 points and seven rebounds.

• Jamezell Davis, Jr., totaled 11 points and Corey Wheeler had 10. Wheeler also dished five assists and hauled in six rebounds.

UP NEXT

 

 Adrian will host Trine on Saturday, February 3 at 3:00 p.m., ET. The Bulldog defeated the Thunder earlier this season in overtime 74-67.
