HIGHLAND PARK, Mich. - The men's basketball team took a little while to get going after the Thanksgiving holiday, but after falling behind 13-4 in the first 5:08 it was all Bulldogs in an 80-55 win at Marygrove on Saturday (Nov. 24). Adrian fell behind by nine points but then took the attack at the Mustangs going on a 29-11 run to end the first half.
Adrian led 33-24 at halftime and then cruised out to a 55-29 lead in the first 7:37 of the second half and did not look back. Eric Lewis and Adam Meier each led the Bulldogs with 17 points against the winless Mustangs (0-7). Lewis is now averaging 19 points per game this season to lead the team. Lewis went 6-of-11 from the floor and connected on 2-of-3 from behind the arc. He also grabbed four rebounds in 23 minutes. Meier was a force inside going 5-of-10 from the floor and 7-of-8 at the foul line. He also grabbed six boards in 21 minutes.
Senior Sean Gallant led the team with eight boards and also chipped in four assists and two steals in 27 minutes. Freshman Ben Rodak scored a career-high 12 points and went 2-of-2 from the arc and 6-of-6 at the stripe. Senior Cody Barnes also scored 12 points and grabbed four rebounds.
Adrian shot 26-of-38 from the free throw line (68.4 percent) while Marygrove went 13-of-23 (56.5 percent). The Bulldogs were also 6-of-9 from the arc while Marygrove went 2-of-11. Adrian forced 22 turnovers in the contest and held the Mustangs to 39.2 percent shooting overall.
