@AdrianBaseball Completes 4-Game Sweep of Olivet; Runs Win Streak to Nine

OLIVET, Mich.—Senior Hunter Hayes homered twice on Tuesday and Adrian College got strong pitching performances from starters freshman Jordan Williams and junior Jason Schroeder as the Bulldogs swept a Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association baseball doubleheader at Olivet College, 6-1 and 10-2. Adrian has won nine games in a row.

THE BASICS

TOP 'DAWGS
= Freshman Jordan Williams (W, 5-0) tossed a two-hitter in his complete-game effort to open the day. He allowed an unearned run and two walks while striking out nine Comets.

= In the nightcap, Schroeder (W, 2-1) got the win after working six effective innings. He allowed three singles, two walks and two runs while getting six strikeouts.

= Hayes finished the day with three hits, four runs batted in, two walks and four runs scored.

= Sophomore Gunner Rainey was 3-for-3 with two RBI in Game 2.

= In the nightcap, junior Zack Zschering and sophomores Tristin Richardson (3 on the day), Brady Wood (3) posted two hits apiece.

THE OPPOSITION
= In the first game, Jake Robinson went 1-for-2 with a walk and Logan Sella hit a double.

= Dugan Dieselberg had a RBI-single and Riley Bennett knocked in a run via a fielder's choice in the second game.

HOW IT HAPPENED, Game 1
= Hayes homered to left field with a man aboard in the top of the very first inning.

= Leading 4-1, Adrian added two insurance runs in the seventh. With one out, junior Jordan Torrento doubled to left field and Zschering was hit by a pitch. After a groundout, classmate Chad Paddock singled up the middle to bring home both runners.  

= Williams lost his shutout bid in the home half. Riley Bennett led off by reaching base on a fielding error and moved to second on a wild pitch. Two batters and no outs later, Bennett scored from second as Aiden Holliday reached first on a throwing error.

= Adrian outhit Olivet 7-2 and the Comets had six runners left on base.

HOW IT HAPPENED, Game 2
= Adrian broke open a close game with four runs in the top of the fifth and two more in the sixth, stretching a 3-2 lead into a 9-2 advantage. 

= Freshman Sean O'Keefe sparked Adrian's four-run frame in the fifth, with a two-run single to right field. Rainey added two insurance runs with a double to right-center.

= Hayes hit his team-leading third homer of the season in the sixth to stake the Bulldogs to a 9-2 cushion.

= Dieselberg and Bennett put the Comets on the scoreboard in the fourth with a RBI-single to left and RBI-fielder's choice, respectively.

= Adrian jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the second when junior Dugan Darnell drove in a run on a bunt-single, Richardson scored on a wild pitch and Rainey had a sacrifice fly to right field.

= Junior pinch-hitter Justin McMann rounded out the scoring for both teams when he hit his first career home run on the first pitch he saw in the ninth.   

BEYOND THE BOX SCORE
= Adrian leads the all-time series over Olivet, 109-58. The 109 wins are the second-most against any opponent (Kalamazoo, 110).

= The five-run win marked the resumption of Monday's suspended game due to snow, with Adrian leading 2-0 in fourth at the time.

= Freshman Nick Rauch recorded his first hit as a Bulldog when he connected for a pinch-hit single in the ninth.

= Williams has leapfrogged teammate Tommy Parsons for the MIAA earned-run average lead with a 1.62 figure. Parsons and Williams are now tied with five wins apiece in the MIAA.

= Hayes now tops the conference with 25 RBI and is second with three home runs. He is now nine hits shy of 100 for his Bulldogs career.

= During the team's longest win streak of the season at nine games, Adrian pitching has allowed three or fewer runs on eight occasions. 

= The Bulldogs' team ERA in conference games-only is 2.72.

UP NEXT
= Adrian's non-league game at Wittenberg tomorrow has been postponed, with no make-up date announced. The Bulldogs will be on the field again on Thursday when they host MIAA foe Calvin in a doubleheader at Nicolay Field, starting at 2 p.m.
