ADRIAN, Mich.--The Adrian College baseball team will open its nine-time title defense of the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association championship on Friday when the Bulldogs make their 2018 home debut at Nicolay Field against Alma College. The doubleheader starts at 2 p.m.
The schools were originally scheduled to play in Adrian on Saturday, but athletics officials from both institutions decided on the change of gameday due to pending weather.
And staying the same, the four-game weekend series concludes in Alma on Sunday, beginning at 1 p.m.
Adrian enters the series with a 5-3 overall record, including two wins over nationally-ranked programs. Junior Dugan Darnell paces the offense with a .419 batting average, which ranks seventh in the MIAA. Senior Hunter Hayes and junior Jordan Torrento lead the Bulldogs with eight runs batted in apiece. Freshman Jordan Williams, the reigning MIAA Pitcher of the Week, tops the conference with a 1.38 earned-run average over 13 innings pitched to go along with a 2-0 record and one save.
Adrian broke Alma's MIAA record of eight consecutive titles from 1951-58 last season before the Bulldogs made their conference-best 11th NCAA tournament appearance.
The Scots have a 7-5 record overall.
