Bulldogs Impressive at Michigan Cross Country Championships

ROCHESTER, Mich. – The Adrian College cross country team battled it out with over 20 from Divisions II/III, NAIA and Junior Colleges at the Michigan Intercollegiate Cross Country Championships hosted by Oakland University on Friday afternoon. The men's team had a great day by placing 11th. The women's team had a very impressive showing, placing eighth out of 17 schools that scored.

The race scored teams into respective divisions, but individuals were ranked against the overall field.

In the men's division, Calvin College won the non-division I team title with a score of 55. The Adrian men's team had 273 points which placed them ahead of MIAA opponents Kalamazoo and Alma.  Sophomore Cyle Rogotzke was the top finisher for the Bulldogs placing 61st with a time of 28:05.4. Junior Peter Konieczki finished right behind Rogotzke in 62nd place with a time of 28:10.0. Freshman Andrew Mangiapane placed 65th with a time of 28:15.1. Nolan Gillespie, a senior finished with a time of 28:28.3, to place 78th. Fellow senior Brian Shoulders rounded out the team scoring for Adrian as he finished the course with a time of 28:39.2 to finish in 85th place.

The ladies impressed some of their MIAA opponents as they scored better than Olivet, Kalamazoo, Alma and Albion. Calvin won to women's division with a score of 34 while the Bulldogs scored a total of 195. The top finished for Adrian was sophomore Alicia Fowler who finished in 55th with a time of 19:46.5. Fellow sophomore Heather Strong finished in 80th place with a time of 20:15.1. Grace Ebersole, a freshman, finished with a time of 20:34.0 to place 88th. Freshman Sylvia Venema finished the course in a time of 20:36.5 to place 90th. Rounding out the team scoring to the Bulldogs was junior Victoria Alexander in 116th with a time of 21:05.2.

The teams will both next compete at the Oshkosh-Brooks Invitational on Saturday, October 16th in Oshkosh, Wisconsin.
