Synchro Kicks Off Season at Porter Classic

ANN ARBOR, Mich. -  The Adrian College synchronized skating team competed on Sunday at the 15th Annual Dr. Richard Porter Synchronized Classic in Ann Arbor and placed eighth with a score of 49.82. The team competed for the first time this season and debuted a more difficult freeskate than ever previously attempted.

"We are very proud of the team's performance this weekend," said head coach Ashley Carlson.  "We attacked a difficult program with confidence and poise.  Unfortunately, we made some costly errors in the second half of the program and did not get all of our calls. We left a lot of points on the table, but it will not happen again. We are strategically training for a strong showing at our next competition in January." The team skated to a medley of music themed, "Heartbreakers."

Highlights of the freeskate included a fast and controlled traveling circle, a solid wheel element, and beautiful flying camel spins. The Bulldogs ousted two Division I programs, University of Illinois and the University of Minnesota, that had strong showings at the 2011 US Synchronized Skating Championships. They look to qualify for their first nationals by competing at the 2012 Midwestern Synchronized Sectional Championships this January in Plymouth, Mich.
