Nov. 16, 2009

KENT, Ohio - The ACHA Division I team attempted to run their winning streak to six on Saturday night at Kent State, but the Golden Flashes had other plans in a 4-3 defeat of Adrian.

The Bulldogs went down 2-0 in the first period as Justin Phenney scored on the power play at 11:03 and Kevin Colleran later scored an even strength goal at 17:26. Adrian cut the lead in half with just 34 seconds left in the first as Jared Semple fired one home with assists from Joey Coffin and Chris Dixon.

Spencer Jordan tied the game early in the second period at the 2:17 mark on a short-handed goal unassisted. Jimmy Scullion was sent to the box for tripping at 1:02 but that did not stop Jordan from getting the equalizer. Phenney was back at it with 21 seconds left in the second as he scored his second of the night unassisted to give Kent a 3-2 lead after 40 minutes.

Josh Martin's power play goal at 4:57 of the third gave KSU a 4-2 lead. Kevin Sunde got a pass from Tom Ciaverilla and buried it at the 17:09 mark of the third, but Adrian could not get the tying goal despite pulling goaltender Jeff Bernyk in the closing moments.

Adrian outshot Kent, 34-22, for the game as Bernyk made 22 saves in net.
