ADRIAN, Mich.--Adrian College's American Collegiate Hockey Association (ACHA) Division 1 men's program is proud to announce that forward Justin Fisher (Flushing/Flint Jr. Generals, NA3HL) has been named team captain for the 2018-19 season. Fisher served as an alternate captain in 2017-18.
The 6-foot-1, 195-pound Michigander has been a vital part of the team's previous success the last four years: a 122-17 overall record, four top-10 year-end national rankings, three conference regular-season titles and two conference postseason crowns.
"Fish is a 'lead-by-example' type of player," states 2018 ACHA Division 1 Men's Coach of the Year Gary Astalos, who is 67-4 in two seasons at the helm of the Bulldogs. "He plays the game the right way, always competes and shows the younger players what it means to be a Bulldog. We could not be happier to have him steer the ship for us next year."
The education major--who will begin student teaching during the upcoming year--is referred to as a high-IQ power forward, logging 125 games in his first four years while tallying 27 goals and 78 assists for 105 total points. While his offensive numbers are noticeably high, Fisher is more commonly known for anchoring the team's first PK unit which featured a remarkable 90 percent success rate on the penalty kill last season.
Fisher will lead a group that is scheduled to return 22 student-athletes off last year's squad that swept the Great Lakes Collegiate Hockey League regular-season and playoff championships, captured its first ACHA Division 1 national championship, went 34-1 on the season, 15-0 in GLCHL play and ended the season with a 20-game winning streak (for second-longest in program history).
The team will announce its assistant captains after training camp in early September.
