ADRIAN, Mich.--Joe Costello and Marcus Rose each scored two times on Thursday night as the Adrian College ACHA Division 1 men's hockey team earned its seventh straight win to start the season, besting rival Davenport, 5-1, at Arrington Ice Arena. It was the Great Lakes Collegiate Hockey League opener for the visiting Panthers, who are ranked 20th nationally. The second-ranked Bulldogs improve to 3-0 in the GLCHL.

The Bulldogs, who moved up one spot to second in this week's ACHA Division 1 Hockey poll, trailed early as Davenport scored the game's opening goal when Alex Hulford knocked in a rebound to give the Panthers a 1-0 advantage. But that would be the only goal the Panthers would get and their lead would last just a little over three minutes before Costello would score his first goal of the game on a beautiful give and go breakaway with Brad Kobryn.

The Bulldogs then took advantage of a Davenport bench minor penalty for too many men on the ice near the end of the period to take the lead for good, as Rose connected with just forty-six seconds remaining in the period with assists from Marcel Kottek and Costello.

Rose extended the Bulldogs lead in second period, scoring an even strength marker with help from Rainer Glimple and Kottek and the Bulldogs got an additional goal from Austin Kuhn, who buried his fourth of the season after a pass from Mark Fratarcangeli to give Adrian a commanding 4-1 advantage after forty minutes.

Costello scored the only goal of the game's final period, recording his sixth of the season with Mike Finger picking up the assist to make the final score 5-1.

Michael Barrett was steady in goal for Adrian picking up his third win of the season making 25 saves. Adrian outshot Davenport 33-26 on the evening.

The series moves to Grand Rapids on Friday with game two between the Bulldogs and Panthers scheduled to begin at 8:35 at Patterson Ice Center.
