ADRIAN, Mich.--The Adrian College ACHA Division l men's hockey team opened their season Thursday night at Arrington Ice Arena with a resounding 7-0 victory over the Canisius Golden Griffins. Adrian seized an early lead in the contest on three consecutive power play goals over the first and second periods and scored four times in the third period to earn the win, outshooting the Golden Griffins by a 53-18 count for the game.
Adrian's only goal in the first period was scored by Marcus Rose on the power play, with assists from Marcel Kottek and J.P Grineau. The assist by Kottek was the first of his three helpers on the evening.
In the second period Adrian took advantage of a five minute major penalty to the Golden Griffins Villi Lappalainen for crosschecking as Justin Fisher and Grineau each picked up their first goals of the season during the five minute uninterrupted man advantage.
Adrian put the game away in the third period with four unanswered goals on even strength markers from Dominic Moore, Joe Costello and Chris Donaldson, with Costello scoring again on the power play to make the final score 7-0.
Austyn Roudebush held Canisius scoreless in the Bulldog net to earn his first shutout of the season, making 18 saves.
