ADRIAN, Mich. - The ACHA Division I men's hockey team finished off a season opening sweep of Bowling Green State's ACHA Division II squad with a 4-2 win at Arrington Ice Arena on Saturday night (Sept. 24). The Bulldogs captured a convincing 7-1 victory last evening over the Falcons and improved to 2-0 with tonight's triumph.
Last evening, it was a host of newcomers who did the damage for the Bulldogs. Grant Ehlert recorded three assists and four different guys scored their first goal for Adrian including Alex Dobrzeniecki, Dylan Towns, Eric Wentzel and Darrell Boldon.
On Saturday, the Falcons jumped ahead 1-0 in the second period as Chris Dyer scored on the power play just 1:12 into the frame after a Erik Wentzel minor penalty for roughing. Wentzel also got a five-minute major for face masking and also got a 10-minute game misconduct. It took the Falcons just five seconds to score into the power play chance. The rest of the period belonged to the Bulldogs who finished with three goals to take a 3-1 lead after 40 minutes. Brandon Boelter tied the game at the 8:37 mark and Matt Zaremba and Ryan Bachman followed suit with even-strength goals. Ehlert, Max Gavin and Jordan Spear each had assists in the second period.
Rick Shaffer scored unassisted at 14:20 of the third period to cut the lead to 3-2. Logan Blackwell then made it 4-2 with a short-handed goal at 12:57 in what would prove to be the game's final goal. Adrian had 50 penalty minutes in the contest while the Falcons had just 18 minutes in the box. Matt Anderson made 20 saves to get the win in net for the Bulldogs.
