ACHA D1 Sweeps #9 Oakland

ADRIAN, Mich. – The ACHA Division 1 team skated away this past weekend with a two game sweep, defeating conference foe Oakland University by scores of 3-1, and 6-1.

Friday night the Bulldogs traveled to Oakland University and took on the Grizzlies in the first of two games last weekend. The Grizzlies came out firing to start the game off as they scored just four minutes into the game. But the Bulldogs answered back with a goal by junior Alex Norman with just over eight minutes left to play in the first period, and that would be the only other goal in the first period leaving the score at 1-1 going into the first intermission. In the second period it was tied until freshman Max Gavin scored with 10:42 left to put the Bulldogs up 2-1 with the only goal of the second period.  With just 6:42 left in the game sophomore Kevin Sunde scored and put the Bulldogs by the final of 3-1. Sophomore goalie Jason Spada had seven saves and then freshman goalie Matt Anderson had nine saves on nine shots and didn't give up a goal in 48 minutes of play.

Sunday the Bulldogs returned home to face the Grizzlies at Arrington Ice Arena.  The Bulldogs' offense exploded for three goals in the first providing a lead that would never be challenged the rest of the game.  Sophomore Spencer Bonomo scored only a minute and a half into the game to put the Bulldogs on the board.  Freshman Jordan Spear and senior Jared Semple both added goals later in the period to push the lead to 3-0 by the end of the first period.  The second period saw the Bulldogs continue to pepper the Oakland goaltender with shots.  Freshman Ryan Bachman's goal 1:15 into the period proved to be the only goal scored by the Bulldogs in the period.  The third period saw a power play goal for each side as well as a shorthanded goal by the Bulldogs.  Oakland took advantage of the power play about 4 minutes into the period when Jon Connors scored Oakland's only goal of the night.  Bulldog freshman Joe Anstett provided the rest of the offensive power for the Bulldogs scoring a power play and shorthanded goal in the period to wrap up the scoring.  Freshman Matt Anderson stood tall in net Sunday afternoon making a total of 22 saves en-route to claiming the win.  Adrian moves to 13-1 on the season.

The ACHA Division 1 team returns to action Thursday, November 4 as the Davenport University Panthers travel to Arrington Ice Arena for a 7:00 face off.
