ADRIAN, Mich.--The No. 3-ranked Adrian College ACHA Division I women's hockey team held the nation's number one team to just two goals on Saturday night, but was unable to push one past Miami (Ohio) junior goaltender Emalee Willis, dropping a 2-0 decision to the Red Hawks at Arrington Ice Arena.
In this battle of top five teams, neither team could score in the first two periods. That would change when Miami scored just over a minute into the third when Rachael Booth slipped one past Adrian sophomore goaltender Allison Dungey with assists from sophomore defender Nicole Matthews and junior forward Jordan Hanson. Miami added insurance just five minutes on with an unassisted goal by junior forward Kaylee Mooney.
The Bulldogs were held off the scoreboard by Willis, despite outshooting the Red Hawks 21-13 on the evening. The game was an extremely clean contest as just three penalties were called on the two teams. Neither team was able to connect on the power-play as Miami was 0-2 and Adrian was 0-1 with the extra attacker.
The win pushes the Red Hawks record to 3-0 on the season while Adrian falls to 3-2.
