ANN ARBOR, Mich--After a heartbreaking overtime loss to the University of Michigan on Thursday, the Adrian College Women's ACHA hockey team traveled to historic Yost Ice Arena on Friday night and rebounded with a 5-2 win over the Wolverines in Ann Arbor to split their two game series.
The Bulldogs were looking for revenge on Friday and got started immediately with a three goal outburst in the first period, which would be more than enough behind the goaltending of Ellyn Stanton (Washington, PA), who stopped 18 shots on her way to her second win of the season against no defeats.
Adrian blitzed Michigan goaltender Bailey Hamill, scoring three times in the first period on goals by Morgan Praska (Douglas, WY), Jessie Rushing (Hernando, MS) and Nichole LaFlamme (White Lake, MI). Praska's goal was scored just 1:29 into the contest with an assist from Laflamme, who picked up another assist along with Jessica Fabbro (Sault Ste. Marie, ON) on Rushing's goal. Laflamme then added her own unassisted goal to make it 3-0 at the first intermission.
Alicia Tait (Oshawa, ON) gave Adrian a 4-0 lead before the Wolverines staged a bit of a comeback, with goals by Carolyn Hurd and Erin Gregoire to pull within two at 4-2.
In the third period the Wolverines turned to Julia Chenoweth in relief of Hamill, and the Bulldogs peppered her with 18 shots, scoring just once on a goal by Nicole Paradis (Orangeville, ON) with an assist from Kaillie Hardy (Waterloo, ON) to make the final score 5-2.
With the victory Adrian is now 3-1-0 on the year while the Wolverines fall below the .500 mark at 2-3-0.
Adrian's next action will be next Saturday and Sunday when the host the Miami Redhawks, last year's national runner-up, in a two game series.
