YORK, Pa. - The Adrian College ACHA Women's Hockey club has positioned themselves with a chance to advance past pool play at nationals with a win over Michigan on Wednesday and a tie against powerhouse Miami (Ohio) on Thursday at York Ice Arena. The Pool A top two will advance to single-elimination semifinals and the Bulldogs and RedHawks are currently tied with three points. The final game of pool play is set for Friday with Adrian versus Minnesota and Miami (Ohio) versus Michigan. The Bulldogs need a win or tie versus the Golden Gophers and the RedHawks need a win or tie against the Wolverines for Adrian to advance to Saturday's semifinals. The game tomorrow against Minnesota begins at 10 a.m.
Adrian College rebounded from a one-goal deficit to tie Miami University, 1-1 (OT) on Thursday. The RedHawks excelled on the penalty kill, not giving up a single goal in three chances. The Bulldogs were unable to stop Miami University from sending pucks towards the net, and the RedHawks eventually piled up 37 shots on goal.
Carly Vanorden rejected 23 shots on goal for the RedHawks. Miami University incurred eight minutes in penalty time with four minors. The Bulldogs' Emily Michelin stopped 36 shots out of the 37 that she faced. Adrian College incurred four minutes in penalty time with two minors.
In the Michigan win on Wednesday, Nichole Laflamme scored all three goals in a 3-0 win. She netted a short-handed goal and even-strength goal in the second and added an empty-netter late in the third. Michelin posted the shutout in net for the Bulldogs.
