Frank and Shirley Dick Scholar Athletes Announced for 2011-12
ADRIAN, Mich. - The Frank and Shirley Dick Scholar Athletes of the Year award have been announced for the 2011-12 school year and this year's honorees are Katrina Wotten (Blackstock, Ont.) of the softball team and Peter Konieczki (Horton, Mich.) of the cross country/track and field teams.
Wotten graduated from Adrian College in May with a business management degree and a 3.92 overall grade point average. She was a four-year member of the softball team and finished her career playing in 163 career games, most in program history. She collected a .268 batting average with 118 hits in 440 at-bats. Wotten scored 77 runs and smacked eight doubles, 10 triples and six homers during her career. She drove in 60 runs and had a fielding percentage of .904 in 146 chances in the outfield. The team had a record of 121-43 during her four years as a Bulldog.
Wotten also did various volunteer work in the community during her days at Adrian College. She walked dogs for the Humane Society, spent time at elementary schools in Adrian with Lunch with a Hero, helped prepare the new Catherine Cobb Center and assisted with Trick or Treat Patrol. She also was a member of the Collegiate Enterpreneurs Organization (CEO) and the Advanced Advertising Federation (AAF) at Adrian College. She also was a part of the Student Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) for two years and was a Mortar Board National College Senior Honor Society member in 2012.
Konieczki is a social studies education major with a 3.99 grade point average. He was a four-year member of the cross country/track and field teams at Adrian College. This past season, Konieczki placed 33rd in the MIAA Cross Country Championships with a time of 27:16. In addition, he placed 12th in the 1,500 meters with a time of 4:16.64 at the 2012 MIAA Field Day. He also finished 16th in the 5,000 meters at Field Day with a time of 17:40.27.
Konieczki served as treasurer for SAAC during the 2009-10 school year and helped organize the Trick or Treat Patrol, Adrian College Field Day and various other activities. He also did Lunch with a Hero program at local elementary schools and was a middle school tutor in all subject areas in Lenawee County. He also was treasurer for Pi Sigma Alpha, the National Political Science Honorary Society in 2011-12.
