FREELAND, Mich.–The Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association on Monday recognized the 95 teams that achieved the MIAA Team Grade-Point Average Award listings for the 2015-16 academic year. That announcement was made by Commissioner Penny Allen-Cook.

Adrian College had six teams make the distinction, including Women's Tennis, 3.49, Coach Maxim Sukalo; Softball, 3.44, Coach Ashley Marinacci; Women's Golf, 3.40, Coach Ryan Williams; Men's Tennis, 3.40, Coach Sukalo; Men's Golf, 3.36, Coach Williams; and Women's Soccer, 3.35, Ali Alamdari.

Recent graduate Michael Mertz (North Farmington High School) became the first Adrian men's tennis student-athlete ever to capture College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) Academic All-America® accolades when he was named to the NCAA Division III Men's At-Large team on June 7.

Rebecca Greco (Dearborn Heights/Divine Child HS), also a recent graduate, made her debut on the 2016 CoSIDA Academic All-District VI NCAA Division III Softball First Team, advancing to the national ballot for Academic All-America® consideration this spring. She was one of 12 Bulldogs selected National Fastpitch Coaches' Association Scholar All-America back in October.

Women's Golf, too, has been recognized nationally this past season as seniors-to-be Emily Bristow (Hanover-Horton HS) and Laura Shureb (Livonia/Stevenson) were tabbed Women’s Golf Coaches Association (WGCA) All-American Scholars earlier this month.

The MIAA Team GPA Award is presented to conference athletic teams that achieve a 3.300 or better GPA for an academic year. GPAs are calculated at the end of the academic year. This award has been given each year since 1998-99.

Calvin led the way with 14 teams honored and seven of Saint Mary’s eight MIAA-sponsored sports achieved recognition.
